The Big Empty

In space, danger strikes from many directions, in many forms. Too many for eyes and ears to follow.
But what if you could practice echo-location with the facility of a dolphin? Or smell chemical changes with the keeness of a dog, perceive magnetic fields directly as a shark, and perceive heat changes with the infrared vision of a pit viper?
For the Riggers who build and maintain the habitats at the space colony at L5, your odds of survival just jumped by orders of magnitude. So the scientists at the colony develop brain implants joined by a “pigtail” to the Riggers’ suits.
But back on an Earth, a renewed evangelical movement grows ever stronger. And they believe that when God created man in His image, He sure didn’t include any snakes or fish. Now Earth threatens to come up and rip out the implants by force.
Welcome to humanity’s first war in space.
